Luncheon in honor of Recipient of the Princess Srinagarindra Award for the Year 2019

          On 3 March 2020, H.E. Mr. Komate Kamalanavin, Ambassador of the Kingdom of Thailand to Republic of South Africa, hosted a luncheon at the Thai House, Residence of the Thai Ambassador in Pretoria in honor of Professor Dr. Serara Segarona Selelo-Mogwe, Recipient of the Princess Srinagarindra Award for the Year 2019 and Founder of the Nurses Association of Botswana. The luncheon was attended by Her Majesty Queen Mother Semane Bonolo Molotlegi of the Royal House of Bafokeng, Representatives from the Embassy of Japan,  and from the High Commission of the Republic of Botswana, also in attendance was the Honorary Consul of Thailand to Botswana, Representatives from the Botswana Nurses Union and Section Heads of the Royal Thai Embassy. 

          The Princess Srinagarindra Award, under the Royal Patronage of Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn, was established in commemoration of the Centenary Birthday Anniversary of Her Royal Highness Princess Srinagarindra in 2000. The Award is conferred annually upon an individual or group of registered nurses or registered midwives who made a significant contribution, through direct care, research, education or management, within the nursing profession or for the development of nursing professionals.

          Last year, the Princess Srinagarindra Awards for the Year 2019 was awarded to Professor Dr. Serara Segarona Kupe-Mogwe from the Republic of Botswana and to Professor Emeritus Junko Kondo from Japan for their commitment and tireless works in health development of people both in their own countries as well as abroad. Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn presided over the presentation ceremony on 7 October 2019 at the Mulasathan Boroma Asana Hall in the Royal Palace in Bangkok, Thailand.
         
          During a brief ceremony prior to the luncheon, the Thai Ambassador congratulated Professor Dr. Selelo-Mogwe on receiving the Award and commended her great contributions and tireless efforts in developing professional nursing and midwifery in Botswana, in addition Ambassador Komate also recognized the Awardees role in the establishment of  various nursing and midwifery organisation in many Southern African countries such as Malawi, Zimbabwe and South Africa. Thailand recognizes Dr. Selolo-Magwe’s  contributions which is also viewed as an empowerment of women by enhanced the status of nursing professions in the Southern African region.
