NON-IMMIGRANT VISA-O-A (LONG STAY)
Purpose of Visit: This type of visa may be issued to applicants aged 50 years and above who wish to stay in Thailand for a period of not exceeding 1 year without the intention of working. Holder of this type of visa is allowed to stay in Thailand for 1 year. Employment of any kind is strictly prohibited.
Please note that Non-Immigrant Visa-O-A (Long Stay/Retirement) will only be granted by the Royal Thai Embassy, Pretoria, to South African and Accredited Countries’ Permanent Residents.
-Eligibility-
1) Applicant must be aged 50 years and over (on the date of submitting application)
2) Applicant is not prohibited from entering the Kingdom as provided by the Immigration Act B.E. 2522 (1979)
3) Applicant does not have a criminal record in Thailand and the country of the applicant’s nationality or residence
4) Applicant must have a nationality of or residence in the country where the visa application is submitted
5) Applicant does not have prohibitive diseases (Leprosy, Tuberculosis, drug addiction, Elephantiasis, third phase of Syphilis) as indicated in the Ministerial Regulation No. 14 B.E. 2535
Visa Application for Non-immigrant O-A
1. Visa Application form(s) and photograph(s): two signed and completed Visa Application Forms dated at least 10 working days before the intended date of travel (Visa Application Form) as well as two recent photograph(s) (size 2x2 inch).
2. Required documents for visa application
2.1 A passport valid for no less than one year and half to be submitted with a copy of passport.
2.2 Summary of the applicant’s personal data (CV/Resume)
2.3 A letter from the bank verifying the amount of deposit in the bank account of no less than 800,000 Baht (or equivalent).
2.4 An Original Police Clearance Certificate or Letter of verification stating that the applicant has no criminal record issued from the country of his/her nationality or residence. Such verification must be valid for no more than 3 months.
2.5 A medical certificate showing no prohibitive diseases as indicated in the Ministerial Regulation No.14 (B.E. 2535) LEPROSY, 2. TUBERCULOSIS (T.B.), 3. ELEPHANTIASIS, 4. DRUG ADDICTION, 5. THIRD STEP OF SYPHILIS, 6. and that (name) is in good physical and mental health. Certificate shall be valid for not more than three months.
2.6 Additional health insurance requirement for Non-Immigrant O-A
Effective from 31 October 2019, the applicant must be medically insured for the entire
period of stay in Thailand with the following coverage:
- Outpatient benefit with a sum insured of not less than 40,000 THB, and
- Inpatient benefit with a sum insured of not less than 400,000 THB
The applicants must submit the following:
Health insurance policy document issued by a Thai or foreign insurance company, stating that the applicant is medically insured for the period of at least 1 year and with coverage as mentioned above:
(a) In case of a foreign insurance company, the applicant must submit the original insurance policy document with 2 copies;
(b) In case of a Thai insurance company, the applicant must submit 2 copies of the insurance policy document or, if available, the original insurance policy document with 2 copies. A list of Thai insurance companies participating in the scheme can be found here: http://longstay.tgia.org
Foreign Insurance Certificate as stipulated by the Office of Insurance Commission and Health Insurance of Thailand, which must be completed, signed and stamped by the insurance company.
2.7 Visa Application Fee (not include visa processing company’s fee) : Multiple-Entry Visa: ZAR3,100
3. A copy of a flight ticket.
Dependents of holders of O-A
(Dependents of holders of O-A are currently not able to enter Thailand)
In the case that the applicant wishes to have his/her spouse stay together in the Kingdom but the spouse is not qualified for the O-A code visa on his or her own, the spouse may be eligible to apply for Single-Entry Non-Immigrant O-visa.
Required documents :
- the same required documents as for Non-Immigrant O-A-visa
- plus marriage certificate (Document issued by Non-Thai Authorities MUST be certified by Ministry of Foreign Affairs of those countries prior to submission).
- A copy of bank statement has to show the amount of another 800,000 Baht (or equivalent) in addition to the applicant’s initial amount).

The Report Form (referred to in Thai as Tor Mor 47) together with a copy of the passport pages showing the alien’s photograph, personal details, and the latest arrival visa stamp as well as a self-addressed envelope with postage affixed, shall be forwarded, by 7 days before the due date, by acknowledgement of receipt mail to the Immigration Bureau, Sathon Tai Road, Sathon District, Bangkok 10120.
In the case of conducting any following reports, the Reply Form for the previous Report shall be enclosed as well.)
