Royal Thai Embassy donate 55,000 ZAR to Mercy House

On 31 May 2018, Mr.Paisit Boonparlit, Charge d’ affaires of the Royal Thai Embassy in Pretoria, handed over a donation of 55,000 Rands or equivalent to 143,698.50 Thai Bahts to Mercy House through Sister Colleen Wilkinson, the Director, and Sister Mary Mmushi, the Assistant Director at the organization. The donation is part of the celebrations of the 25 year Anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Thailand and South Africa in 2018 as well as to commemorate the centenary of the birth of Nelson Mandela. This donation is also part of the continuous effort by the Royal Thai Embassy in supporting Mercy House’s activities.

On behalf of the Embassy and the Government of Thailand, the Charge d’ affaires expressed his appreciation to Mercy House in providing much needed shelter to the most vulnerable women in needs without discrimination in nationality, race or religious preference. He also expressed his sincere appreciation for its close cooperation between Mercy House and with the Royal Thai Embassy in providing a place of safety and accommodation especially to Thai women at the most critical juncture. The Charge d’ affaires pledged the Thai Government continued support both in cash and kind and the two sides also discussed closer cooperation in the future.

Mercy House has provided accommodation for over 80 Thais in the past 20 years. Its activities and contribution has been funded and recognized by such activities as the Government of South Africa, the European Union and others. The Royal Thai Government is proud to support Mercy House.
