On 18 July 2018, the Royal Thai Embassy in Pretoria and Thai community in South Africa, led by Mr. Paisit Boonparlit, the Chargé d’affaires of the Royal Thai Embassy, together with the “Prism of Hope”, a non-profitable organization prepared and donated 100 boxes of hygiene products to disadvantaged South African children in 5 schools in Pretoria as well as foodstuff and winter clothes to a child care centre “Dynamic Women for Children”. This event was held to commemorate the Centenary of the birth of Nelson Mandela and to celebrate the 25 year anniversary of the establishment of the diplomatic relations between Thailand and South Africa.

In close collaboration with the “Prism of Hope”, a number of needy children from various schools and child care centre have been identified. Then, funds, toiletries and other necessary items were raised and collected among Thai community in South Africa and Thai diplomats.

This donation was mobilized with a great support of a group of Thai business people who live and do their business in South Africa. Most of them are in hospitality industry and for nearly two decades help boost South Africa’s economy by employing and training several hundreds of young South African to have skill needed for a career in hospitality.

Being part of South African community for 25 years and inspired by Nelson Mandela’s faith in humanity, the Royal Thai Embassy and Thai community wish to commit themselves through this charity event to building a resilient South African society in which human dignity of both black and white children has been assured.
