            On 23 October 2016, H.E. Dr. Pornchai Danvivathana, Ambassador of Thailand to the Republic of South Africa, hosted a merit making ceremony to marks 7 days of the passing of the late King Bhumibol, with manyThais and South Africans attending the event to honour the late king.

            The Ambassador made a remark highlighting the late King Bhumibol life-long work which have a profound impact on the better living and livelihood of Thai people. Since the event coincide with the anniversary of Chulalongkorn Day, the Ambassador also commemorate the work of King Chulalongkorn, another Thai monarch who played an important role in the life of Thai people. Afterward, Thais and South Africans participated in merit making ceremony and meditation for 9 minutes in honour of the late King Bhumibol.

            The event shows the extent of revere and respect the Thai people in South Africa have toward the late King Bhumibol. Until today, more than 350 Thais have visited the Royal Thai Embassy to sign the book of condolences for the late king.
